Aug 7 - A morning departure has you heading into the Lewisburg, PA Area. Upon arrival you will meet your guide for a driving tour of historic Lewisburg including Bucknell University and the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary, where Al Capone, Jimmy Hoffa and Henry Hill who was portrayed in the movie, "Goodfellas" all spent time. From here, continue to neaby Mifflinburg for admission to the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum. When the doors to William Heiss's Buggy Factory were closed upon his death in 1931, leaving the actual 19th century workshop and buggy collection preserved in time for 50 years when the doors were open once again to reveal a unique look at America's industrial past. Along with the factory building, you will also visit the Heiss home and repository. After the tour, depart for the Holiday Inn Express in Columbia where you will check in and have a chance to freshen up. Tonight, enjoy a hearty, country-cooked buffet dinner at Country Cupboard Restaurant, then explore their acre of shops where you just might find that unique gift, country collectible, or home decor item.
Aug 8 - Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then depart north into Wellsboro, PA for your day of touring the the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania region. Board your horse-drawn wagon - similar to those used in the 1800's and travel down the Pine Creek Rail trail on a tour of the Upper Gorge. Your tour guide relays the history of the Canyon going back to the 1700's and a wide variety of wildlife can be seen including bobcats, whitetail deer, otters, mink, eagles, woodchucks and more. A stop will be made at Leonard Harrison State Park where you will have a chance to observe the 800-feet deep, glacially-carved canyon from the Overlook. There will be time for lunch on your won and browsing in the quaint downtown Wellsboro, then depart for Williamsport where you will enjoy a fantastic dinner at the historic Peter Herdic House, a Victorian mansion located on Millionaires Row.
Aug 9 - Following breakfast at the hotel, it is time to check out and return to Williamsport. Upon arrival, you will meet your costumed guide for a tour of Millionaires Row. Each person will join the ranks of the "millionaires" with your very own million dollar bill as you learn about the lumber barons of the Victorian Era who built their homes here. Many have been preserved and the district also includes gardens and parks which have been brought back to their original splendor. Later you will stop at Susquehanna State Park where you will board the Hiawatha for a 1 hour sightseeing cruise on the Susquehanna River. A final stop will be made at Annunciation Church for a tour of this imposing stone structure of Romanesque architecture built in 1889. Its richly stained glass windows include several frescoed with life-size figures. Handsome alters decorate the sanctuary as massive Corinthian columns support eh canopy and include a magnificent pipe organ. After the tour depart for home with fond memories of the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.
